I preface this review with the statement that I have Echostar version of this product, the DVR-DTVPal (actually, I confess that three of them). While these are the same physical drive as the master channel 7000PAL-CM available here (Echostar is the OEM for Master Channel) firmware is slightly different and Channel Master provides its own warranty program and customer independent. />
This DVR is excellent value compared to similar offers. In fact, one of the few DVR is designed for Over-The-Air (OTA) digital TV recording, Rather Than tied to a cable or satellite. There are no subscription or licensing fees necessary for the operation or functionality limitations. The DVR has two independent high-definition (HD) tuner, which allows simultaneous recording of two HD programs and playing back a previously recorded third show. Input from an external antenna via a standard RF coaxial connector, and tuners are capable of better than average block on remote sites. Output HD video is delivered via HDMI or component outputs, analog standard definition video and is available via analog composite and / or RF coaxial (including passing signal to the TV antenna). Audio is transmitted via HDMI, optical digital and analog outputs. The Dolby Digital audio ports support the production of live and recorded. /
There is no compression or re-encoding of the recorded content, the reading is exactly the same as the original broadcast. It should be noted, however, that the output resolution (480p, 720p, 1080i, etc.) is set through the menu selection and will automatically switch the resolution depends on the spread. It simply means that scaling by default any request (if any) will be made on the DVR rather than your TV – a feature that is ignored by most viewers. />
Recordings can be started manually, and if the tuner was on the current channel before you can record from the beginning of a show, even if it is already in progress. Scheduled recordings are set by the channel guide and are based on time. This means that the time to start recording and the date originally scheduled, even if that time slot the show has been moved. This is important and an area where the DVR falls a bit ’short compared to other (more expensive) units which have the records by name, skip auto-replies, I know scheduling features of this DVR are more like a traditional VCR by adding a quick reference channel. />
All materials exposure, both live and recorded, can pause, rewind, fast forward, and put in slow motion. A convenient button on the remote machine to make a jump forward 30 seconds when pressed repeatedly that corresponds almost exactly with a commercial break.
Ethernet port is provided for automatic firmware updates, or updates can be transferred manually via a USB stick into the USB port. The top drive can store up to 30 hours of HD or 150 hours of recordings of standard definition (even if it is determined solely by the station – you can not choose to record HD content in SD). In addition to a procedure for opening a bit ‘difficult for the case, replace the disk for increased capacity is relatively simple and reliable (although not supported by the manufacturer).
In closing, it should be noted that the origin-DTVPal DVR units (like mine) where the main channel was built had a story a bit ‘rocky. Earlier versions of firmware had a series of questions, some were just trouble and others who have been causing a serious usability. However, the latest firmware, released some months ago and launched the first OEM agreement with Channel Master, proved to be quite stable and reliable. Having three units used on a day in my house, the oldest of Which has been used since the introduction of products of well over a year, makes me confident in the recommendation of the DVR for anyone interested in great value, or less OTA DVR functionality.
The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) has changed the way many people watch television. Now, instead of being tied to a broadcast time, you can record the shows you want and watch them at your convenience without worrying about a blank tape (or a blank DVD) is inserted into the drive. Since the drive based DVR, just make sure you have set the timer and there is not enough space on your hard drive. But beyond the paradigm of the VCR, DVR (including the Channel Master CM-7000PAL) allow you to Pause Live TV (ideal for a quick phone call or a bathroom break) or you can start watching a show 15 minutes after it started, and fast forward through advertising, although observed by the show scheduled at the end of time. />
Now none of the behaviors listed above is particularly “new” – TiVo and other recording devices disk drive has been around for many years – but what makes today the CM-7000PAL HD DVR different from almost all other players in the DVR market is that no ‘There are no monthly fees associated with its use. Instead of nickel-and-gray to death for your business cable or satellite provider TiVo DVR with a guide or monthly fees, you can take a CM-7000PAL: it takes in your local HD and digital channels for free, using available the public registration information to give you a guide very useful and informative, and gives you all the essential features of these DVR units, for a single price. />
The CM-7000PAL is not perfect – in some respects, its operation is a return to the days of the VCR. Yes, you can browse a list of driving and eight days worth of shows on your channels and select the program you want to record and press the OK button to set the record. But this record has not provided any intelligence in it – it’s just a timer that starts and ends at a scheduled time on a particular day on a specific channel. This is The most purposes, but if a show is moved to another day time (as happens sometimes weeks of major sports events) you might lose the unless you remember an episode in a short week and set the timer for recording the program in its time again. Furthermore, it is possible to program the CM-record 7000PAL only new (not included) episodes of a show. If you set to record “Survivor” on CBS at 8:00 on Thursday night for an hour, then get whatever is on CBS on Thursday evening at 8:00 always for an hour (or until you cancel the timer) and it will automatically end the season and leads the meeting on Sunday evening. advanced as TiVo DVR and the cable and satellite are more intelligent because They can automatically strip a show with the name of the show, whatever the day is done, as well as recording new episodes, if that is your preference.
Also, the CM-7000PAL work with cable or satellite broadcasts. The top receivers (there are two of them) are both ATSC over-the-air (OTA) digital tuner. This means that you need internal or external antenna to pull in your local HD and digital channels. The disadvantage is that you can get a premium “channels (eg HBO, ESPN), but the advantage is obvious that there is no monthly fee for television service either. The fee for the DVR plus the cost of an antenna (if not already have one) is how much money you will pay. Period. (Well, okay, you may need some cable connection too, but they are pretty cheap … See below for details).
Having two tuners means you can record one program while watching another channel directly, or you can record two live channels while watching a third previously recorded program. Moreover, if the TV tuner has its own (most-Def HDTV can the United States include an ATSC tuner), then you can record two shows on the DVR while watching a third program live on your TV.
In terms of performance, we have not noticed any deterioration between programming live and recorded HD playback. The unit is essentially catch the live stream broadcast and store it without additional compression, if the quality is very high. In fact, in most cases is higher quality Than the quality of cable and satellite broadcasting, Which frequently use heavy compression to fit more channels broadcast Within a fixed bandwidth. The audio quality is good even with the digital optical fiber in case you want to connect this to a surround sound or home theater system. Under the program, you can get up to 5 full. 1-discrete channel Dolby Digital audio output for recording or live TV. If you want to enjoy the HD image quality, then you want to get an HDMI cable is not included in the box (I got lucky with the cables HDMI cable line AmazonBasics – cheap, but reliable, in my humble opinion) . Also, if your receiver or HTiB system does not support HDMI audio, then take a Toslink optical cable as well, to make Dolby Digital 5. 1 Surround. />
Overall, the DVR-CM is a solid 7000PAL at a price quite affordable, especially without a monthly subscription fee affordable. Our full review of the group is available at Big Picture Big Sound (dot com).
As reviewers have already covered most of the features of this window, I will concentrate my review on the current configuration and use of this DVR.
Use:
I used to have a Master CM-7000 (rated by Consumer Reports Top Channel DTA) so you can watch broadcasts. When you record a program, I had to run the CM-7000 DVD recorder that I had the record on a virtual drive that carried acted as a small disk very hard (2-4 hours of recording). Well, I tried to record a batch of World Cup, and the playback quality simply was not large, so I decided to run to the store and get this DVR. The DVR replaces two devices (space original CM-7000 DAT recorder and DVD), the savings in my entertainment center, plugs, reduced wiring, etc.
Setup:
physical installation was a breeze (I used a component cable from the HDMI port on my TV is used for Blu-Ray). When turn on the DVR, immediately went to the installation wizard that guides you through the creation date, time zone and zip code (the program guide). It seems for all the available channels. I made a mistake in setting my time zone, so the DVR screen pops up that aimed to establish the time zone, I accepted – a nice feature or I might have missed I really wanted to see the record because of bad weather.
Guide:
The chain guide is an improvement. You can see the upcoming programs for the channels simultaneously and up to 1 week. Note that you can set the size of the text for the guide channel to make it easier for the eyes or to squeeze more information on the screen. />
Watching TV: < , br /> Watch TV on what is excellent. The CM-7000 DTA I used only standard definition, as requested by the government coupon program. With this DVR you get high-definition video. . . what a difference! As other commentators have pointed out, you can watch TV (any channel you want), while the DVR is recording another channel. />
Establishment of a registration can not be easier. Without even reading the manual, I could go to the program guide, select a recorded program I wanted, and I finished. This window will actually record two programs simultaneously, which is an absolute necessity. For example, I could save two sports programs (can not see them because I had to go to work), which were released at the same time. I rejoice when I get off work and come back to watch every game, fast forward through commercials, half time, etc. Unlike people who have cable or satellite and pretend that there is no good programs on television broadcast I think there is a good program to look beyond the broadcast stations for free. The question is: when the programming is transmitted and when you have time to watch. DVR solves this problem. In fact, with large capacity hard drive included, I’m going to record a number of good family / children’s video ’so that when our children have their friends, instead of jumping into a DVD / Blu-Ray, can I play from what was recorded. />
Another feature of the DVR is called “time-shifting.” This may seem a fanciful word, but so easy to use. If you watch television, simply press the “pause” if you must answer the phone, doorbell, run to the stove because the food is hot, etc. When you are ready to resume, simply press “play” and the program still looking at right where you left off, so do not miss anything. Then when you get to a business, just fast forward to
Conclusion:
This DVR has added to my television viewing features such as high-definition video The ability to record multiple programs “concurrently” on display after an hour more convenient, time-shifting capabilities, video and even use the Vault. To get this DVR, we were mostly watching DVDs and videos on the internet on our TV. Now, watch live (in fact “registered”) TV is a new pleasure.
I used this product for about three weeks. Free TV – that concept! I have all the features and advantages of the old facilities of Comcast (less than a few cable channels I used to watch) and I’m saving $ 80 + per month. In about six months, I have to pay for the DVR and the external power antenna (Philips SDV2940/27), antenna mast, and the coaxial cable in about six months. PBS has some of the best things on TV, and it’s free! This time next year I will make $ 500 extra in my pocket – maybe I’ll buy a nice HD TV:)
As mentioned by others is the same that was the mark Dish Network / Echostar. Unfortunately, the new Channel Master has also increased the price of $ 80-90, on what is the cost. I know that the guarantee is now longer, but this is a huge price increase
That said, I give 4 stars, because I hope more people will buy these cables and fall! Some reports say there may be more free television over the air, in recent years because, due to low viewers, the stations can not receive more money on advertising as they do. So I encourage people to support free TV!
With the TV Guide listings for seven days almost all channels in my area is impressive, and it helped me to find good programs including slots weekly movie about some of these channels secondary (for example 32. 2, 65. 3) otherwise I’d never known were there.
My Dish Network / Echostar version worked perfectly for 9 months. The only thing twice a recorded program has been lost for some reason. But it is a very good experience.
I’ve had the Channel Master for about 2-3 months now here in the Toronto area. It works great except for CFTO and OMNI channels. OMNI has no guide for programming and CFTO sometimes has a guide for the next few hours of the day. CFTO was helpful in correcting the one hour offset in their guide when I emailed them to mention it being off by an hour. Since then, it has now gone blank and I’ve sent two emails to them with no response and no correction. I’ve read other OTA tv forums discussing how to get complete guide programming, and I’m wondering if it’s the local Toronto area channels that are at fault or if it’s because the set-up for the CM-7000PAL does not allow for postal codes vs zip codes? I’m thinking I may have to use a different zip code perhaps? Anyone know where this fault lies? Some others have suggested they have a complete guide with SAGE and Zap2it? Out of my realm of knowledge. Help if you know. Thanks. CM-7000PAL is a great product!
