  1. This device is truly excellent powerful. This is a bargain if the price does not increase (see Section 3). It combines 3 different functions in one stylish package, each of which alone would cost more than the sub-$ 300 price not long ago: a 160 GB hard-disk recorder, a digital ATSC / analog tuner (and NTSC tuner too), and a DVD recorder. Furthermore, it breaks the DVD + / – format war for its ability to record on both.

This device is one of surprisingly few hard drives-plus-DVD recorder devices available today announced that it has a digital tuner. Eliminates the high cost of the monthly cost of a VCR. No monthly fee! You can do two things at the same time, allowing the playback of DVD or hard drive while recording to disk. This is a fan, but it is quiet and off for about a minute after switching on the device. And, of course, you can watch live TV via the TV tuner, as well.

NOTES ON PRICING: In 2009, Philipps price is increased, sometimes considerably more than that last year, although they are still found at a good price. It may, in limited quantities and / or should be eliminated: I do not know. If you find that you can only at a high price should include other units. Gary reports recently that the new provision Magnavox H2160MW9, now with Amazon that is substantially the same as the Philips and became a sub-$ 300 price, to investigate. With higher prices there are other units that may be at odds with this otherwise excellent Philips, high definition instead of standard-def record (even if only on the hard drive): The MR Moxi 1500 (only for cable can not be used with an antenna, 500 GB) hard drive) or the TiVo TCD658000 HD XL DVR (for cable and antenna, 1000-GB hard drive. TiVo service fees imposed, unlike Moxi and Philips, so that the HD XL is actually about $ 900 for the device + “” fee for life of service. Unlike the Philips, have both Moxi and TiVo DVD Recorder supplement programs to download a DVD title (SD non-HD, at least until Blu-ray recorders are available.) Otherwise you will lose your recordings, if and when the hard disk fails.

Record TV programs I < br /> an antenna on the roof, and receive both analog and digital television signals. planning to record TV programs is very similar to programming a VCR manually. There is no automatic programming, but it’s really difficult to do manually. It is equipped with HD signals to SD (standard definition).

The list of programs ( “title”), was added to bring, are clearly identifiable and easy to navigate. But it is better to put at least a rudimentary tracks on TV immediately after you receive them. Otherwise, all you have is the date, time and channel for recording. It must be added the title of a method requires a cumbersome SMS large number of presses of numbers 1-9.

Playback I use an HDMI cable between the unit and my TV. Play from the hard drive is a joy. Access is immediate. The device remembers where you happen the last time individually for each program on the left. You can maneuver around the recordings with (adjustable) 30-second skip forward / back button, or having an adjustable speed forward / backward, or switch to a chapter ( “Next”), use (optional) 10 – Self-minutes chapters that will be inserted.
DVD playback is fine, but loading a DVD is slow (perhaps because it can handle so many different DVD formats).

    ratio (edited 12/08–thanks E. Arnold)
It to play with from time to time necessary to make the image appear correctly.
When recording digital programs, you get high quality 16:9 SD-definition playback on a widescreen TV with the following Settings: Setup / General / Video / TV Aspect/16 9 And set the “HDMI” switch to 1080p (1080i, or if you set 16:9, not p). The TV must select the correct aspect ratio automatically. < , br /> If you’re still a 4:3 ANALOG-playing program (through June 2009) with these settings, it was sideways tense reset “HDMI” to 480p To resolve this problem.
If you are recording some programs are broadcast in digital are not in full screen mode (eg, BBC News) It is recommended to press the ZOOM button on your TV to fill the screen.

ease of use, features are well designed and the software is good. But you’ve read the manual.
The remote control took the keys, but most are poorly projects. The STOP button is tiny.
Since the need for a multifunctional device, tell which component you want to use. If you watched a TV show recorded on the hard drive and then insert a DVD only if you press “Play” to include the representation of the hard disk when you press the “DVD” first. It is not smart enough to recognize, you want the DVD now.
The 122 pages is a detailed guide. It is quite well written. Mine is very good and flipped dogeared. To get the most from this unit complex, you must read carefully.

For copying from old VHS tapes or DVDs at home, I do best to find the first record on the hard disk. Then use “delete a scene” to remove unwanted parts. The software for this is fairly easy to use. Then transfer the cleaned up version on DVD . It is theoretically possible to record directly from VHS to DVD, and you need to remove unwanted sections on the DVD directly from the “hide chapters,” but this is clumsy (first) defines a section of a chapter. Worse still, these deletions and additions chapters are skipped when played back on another device.

Upsides A great, inexpensive way to connect the analogue and digital terrestrial or cable. < br /> No monthly fee.
    good quality recordings 16:9 SD.
transferred versatile and capable of recording or so between DVD and HDD.

The disadvantage can not program in high definition HD – lowers the SD.
    ’slow to load DVD.
buttons on the remote are ill-prepared.
    Titling tracks is tedious.
modifications DVD can be ignored in other DVD players.

Summary This is truly a beautiful and versatile device, at a good price. This is to overcome the digital age. Finally, here’s a device with the versatility to replace the complete S-VHS VCR.
The next step will be, if this type of device has been upgraded to record HDTV on your hard drive and record to Blu-ray DVD. Hold your breath.

(This article is based on the model previous DVDR3575H, similar except for the tuner-based).

  2. I’ll get some points guide I had only a couple of days and I’m still learning / play with to give. For details of this device, read reviews of his predecessor, upscaling to 1080p Philips DVDR3575H/37 DVDR with a tuner

Despite some misinformation, it has an HD tuner (from research, it seems that no HDD / DVD) do machines. It has a standard definition tuner, but with a little ‘tricks to catch the HD signals to SD DOWNCONVERT etc, but when he plays again Upconvert is the signal for something like HD (Not True HD, but always in close! ). Pre-recorded DVDs are upconverted look pretty darn good!

Got this device connected to a Sharp LC20D42U Aquos 20-inch LCD HDTV. I had DVR in the house for comparison, but in my kitchen, I’m just a simple power cable (Comcast). It is worth noting that I have on my Sharp 22 HDTV digital (video), the channels, but through this Philips DVDR-41-in tuner, I damn near twice the channels on my TV Sharp! (without the 30 or so digital music channels) are both about.

Take avsforum. com and search for DVDR3576H/37-the first two links will tell you everything you know about this product! I have a lot of research there, and sat on this purchase for a couple of days trying to decide whether to open the window or send it after I found it on a HD tuner finally decided to make the jump and then take what is a damn impressive little piece!
I probably would give 4 stars if they had a sort of channel guide (like Comcast DVR), but I understand the units with the features of TV Guide is “uncertain.

    ;
PROS size smaller than the VCR that replaces
image quality (HD, but no Damn impressive)
Nothing like to show TV Guide / Comcast cable management, that up / say what you have received (even if all the images appear more windows / snapshots so you can say what, probably recording, if not, scroll up / down / side in the number of snapshots and the program starts playing immediately in its Windows Small-6 windows per page, multiple pages, depending on the number of images you have)
HD signal through the TV without any degradation evident (the power line was for the DVDR-VCR HDTV)
recording speed 160GB hard drive, many possibilities!
will not be recorded in high definition could be considered a professional, as the host takes up a lot in SD less space on your hard disk recorded, as if in HD (upconverted images during playback)

CONS No sound button on the remote TV DVDR (a pain for the TV control) was simply to reach the volume, an illuminated universal remote control (?) with at least rudimentary TV Control (or simply a volume button!) would be nice.
button labels Damn Small! eyes old is not what it could be used in order to have that pressure of the remote control with buttons? Color-coded buttons would be nice (different colors for the functions of the hard disk, etc.).
No channel labeling ! My Sharp TV does not have, but my work Toshiba Regza TV! With all the channels available now, it would be nice if you could label the channels (like my Toshiba TV) instead of remembering channel 105 1?
; A dual tuner would be nice (allows you to watch one channel while recording another

BTW… Sam’s Club for $ [...] It seems that the normal price?

  3. I bought 2 months before well liked and so I bought a second so you can record programs from 2 channels simultaneously. />

For timer recordings, is still more convenient than a VCR. You can use simple and clear to the events and not worry about what’s on tape. By default, displays the date, time and channel for each event. I have a log file on a separate piece of paper, and that the time each event allows you to save the disc label. I usually delete an event, after the way I see it anyway.

I use a 52 “Sony HDTV, so you can evaluate the quality of the images. In EP speed matching for 132 hours on the hard disk, and the quality is comparable to the VCR the speed of the European Parliament. But it has the advantage of wide-screen picture and surround sound. But it has the disadvantage that it is not record subtitles. for we have a problem with the TV to distort the past 5 years or so done because the dialogue was drowned by the music useless. It would not be a problem if the TV industry, its laws would be clean.

What’s really remarkable is the quality as well as through the tuner and connect to your TV. An image that is matched by the DVR and then to the TV or the HDMI cable or component video cable is sent, it is unclear how the same image directly adapted from the TV. What else is interesting that the cable HDMI is a component video cable is the worst part, though HDMI has emerged as the last.

One day, we are able to Blu-ray, but until then, I think this is an excellent unit.

  4. I wish I had more time to write this review on the Philips DVDR3576H/37. Other reviews sometimes criticized some or many aspects of this machine. I have this DVR / HD Combo for 9 months and had worked well. The only point I agree with other reviews, changing the title of a recorded program on the hard drive is pretty boring. So I’m not worried. I just start recording with the description of the flag of the TV show or movie, and like I tell everyone apart. Pretty low tech and it works. I use this device with DirecTV and programming the timer is very simple. Electronics are my toys, and this is the best toy I bought in a long time. My TV is a 52-inch Sony 1080p/120 Hz and recorded material looks fantastic. I hope that people continue to buy this device to keep Philips invests money to make better and better.

  5. I read a lot of reviews before I bought the Philips DVDR3576H. I’m not on cable or satellite, as I do not like paying for my TV every month.

I had the Philips for several weeks now. It works very well with my TV setup. I personally have not yet made the switch to an HDTV, my Philips is to connect an RCA 20 “CRT with an analog tuner. Some reviews I read were negative on the fact that the registers Philips SDTV only instead of HD, since I do not have HDTV I do not care … it works great for me. “Philips has a dual tuner digital / analog, with him, I can collect all the digital signals available in my area crystalline (it takes more than faint signals better than my digital box Digital TV converter). I have my VCR connected to it my collection of VHS tapes to DVD dub and it works very well.

that the reproduction program is best if the mode of recording (both disk and DVD) for the highest setting is set if the SP mode, does not work very well. settings The Extended Play more time for the program to your hard disk can squeeze at irregular intervals on the degradation caused by compression of video commercials further video signal to cause the hard drive. I usually record on the hard drive in its best setting (up to 33 hours quality) and the DVD in the next-to-the-best setting, so I can have two hours on a DVD.

There is a slight learning curve with all the features of the Philips but if we assume that the differences in both methods of recording to HDD or DVD, and it’s really no different than involved to learn to record to a VHS.

So far, I really enjoyed this device, I do not understand why producers more, like similar units. Philips DVD / HDD recorder in my experience, a good supplement to an existing system of entertainment.
