I have owned 5 different types of iPod, Zune and the original, and I must say that this product is by far the best of the bunch. I spent the day trying to return my iPod Classic (80GB) so I could get my hands on one of these — and I had to look around the city to find one.
E ‘better than the iPod classic? Without a doubt. Can I make a fair comparison, since I played with the classic for the last two weeks. I’ve had iPod Nanos (first and third generations), three video iPod (5G), and an iPod classic (80GB). The iPod is a product line very well, but I had too many bad experiences with video 5G want to keep. I heard that the Z80 came out and went to buy that instead.
I spend most of my time here discussing how the Zune 80 is compared to its predecessor, the Zune 30 and iPod line – as he set the standard for MP3 players for the last years.
display glass screen looks much better plastic Zune original. The 320×240 resolution is superb. It looks much better screen Classic. You can turn sideways to take full advantage of it while watching videos. The screen of the iPod Classic can be viewed from one direction, and has largely remained the same after the fifth generation. The video quality is excellent. Although this is technically the same resolution as the iPod classic, nano and Zune 4 and 8, you can still look great because of its size and clarity. You will notice that the quality on the smaller Zune Appears sharper, but only because there are more pixels per square inch on them, the smaller size. still seems large. This screen is slightly larger than the 1G Zune, but overall is still smaller in both thinness and height. The glass screen is far more durable plastic, and after several months of testing I can now say that does not scratch easily, if at all.
This thing is build-made to last. It feels much thicker and stronger than last year’s model. The first generation Zune could not win a beauty contest by far – but I think it’s a winner. Back aluminum reminds me of the iPod line, although it is much better, because it is brushed metal. (In other words, keep it in a window, and wear gloves when you want to tackle, as you did with the iPod). The paint, believe it or not, is actually very difficult to scrape. I put in my pocket with my keys, and the screen, scratches or paint. I would not deliberately submit to these tests, but it happened and is still in perfect condition. I scratched the back of my iPod Classic the first day I understood why the shiny metal back. Scratch the back of your iPod is inevitable. I do not see the need to scroll affaire.molette
-Zunepad the iPod is a nice piece of work when it first came out. The Zunepad is better. bold statement? Maybe. But now I can navigate through the touch controls in four different directions instead of two with the iPod. And it is very easy to do. I was skeptical at first, but Microsoft has nailed. You can choose whether you want to tap your fingers on squirqle “listen to your music, or you can simply press the buttons to navigate. I have nothing against Apple, but the wheel on the Classic was not as sensitive as the video iPod 5th generation . You should not make progress when you release new hardware? I had problems with my classical sensibilities scroll wheel. I can definitely see myself much faster navigation using Zunepad. />
A couple of things I noticed: Zunepad not work with gloves of all kinds (mostly). Not that the magnitude of the problem, but I noticed something interesting. Even the analog buttons below Zunepad not work if you wear gloves. You must feel that touch your skin is working correctly. I find it rather strange. I get a response from him, but not usually as you want. big deal for me because it is cold. off your gloves to change a song is a burden, although I still enjoy using it more than I do the wheel (which worked with gloves.) I tried cotton, leather and suede. It sounds crazy, but my biggest gripe is the Zune 80.
firmware not too different from the original one, beyond aesthetics. It seems fair enough. Oversized letters are nice to look at, and plus some decent animations. You can define your own funds, rather than having the iPod Classic automatically album that running back (I hated). The “twist” interface is very easy to use iPod. I am sure I can get a song much faster than someone with an iPod. It works similar to a spreadsheet calculation, as have artists, songs, etc. albums of which at the beginning of the respective content categories listed below. A simple f lick to the right or left immediately changes categories. Microsoft definitely wins in this category.
< , br /> Radio-You’d have to pay for this, if you bought an iPod classic. Although I do not use it, it’s always nice to have.
-Zune Software I’ll be honest, I ‘ve been using iTunes for several years, and I hate it. When I bought the original Zune, I thought that iTunes would drain a good thing. I was wrong. The original software has been catastrophic. BUT, the new software is a big improvement. It is too simple. It is also easy on the eyes. I may consider using this as my default player now — something I never did with the original software. The reason I got rid of my original Zune in favor of the iPod classic is the software. I was tired of using it. Now I have more reason to keep my Zune.
After using it for a while ‘, I noticed some wits with this software, especially, seems to sync a small group of songs again and again. I see this being fixed by the next update of Microsoft. ‘I used it for a while’ time and I’m not so optimistic about it when I wrote this comment. It ’s still over iTunes, and certainly original, but they need to solve some problems with it. That is, the synchronization options. The software recognizes some of the videos in MPEG 4, but not all . I think it could be a problem with the conversion software (Xvid-> mpeg4).
The quality of sound, which is probably the most important part of this review is great . The problem is that they removed the equalizer, so what you hear is what you get. It was not a wise choice on the part of Microsoft. I think it sounds louder than an iPod, But I’m not an audiophile by any means.
Premium headphones. This is much better than most stock headphones. They are kind of in-ear headphones, and have time to adjust, if you ‘I’ve never used. The bass response is an advantage. I tried before and are comparable to my dearest Sony.
DRM do not know much about this category, then find the comment that people left at the end of this notice. I I do not use such content. I understand that all downloaded from iTunes will not work on Zune. So if your library has been downloaded from iTunes, you do not get this MP3 player. It is their way to ensure that you continue to buy their products and the prevention of piracy.
free synchronization thread. I can not really use this. I feel works well. I can not really imagine using it, then take what you want. I do not see the big deal about it. If I sync my music, I want my Zune to charge as well. Perhaps this characteristic is for lazy people, But I do not see it as useful.
use Drive. You can not put anything here that does not pass through the Zune software. In other words – not use it as a portable hard drive, even though most of us do not hack complete with music. You can do whatever you please with an iPod. He is requesting to change the online registry online. Google is your friend. Try your own risk.
battery-Bon The battery is not bad when playing MP3. I went a weekend with a reasonable use without having to recharge it (forgot the USB drive arrangement). Battery life with video is not good at all, but I do not think was too far from the classic iPod. I prefer the big screen and battery life than the classic all day.
– Conclusion /> I’m not a Micro $ oft fanboy, contrary to what this review might seem. I had nothing, but before you iPod 1G Zune. I must say that seems to be the best I have owned and I do not mind the Classic my return.
It ’s easier to use, has a better looking screen, very generous capacity, audio and video playback, built in radio, and sleek design.
< br /> If iPod classic can earn four stars, it gets really five as the top MP3 player — by a longshot. It is not without its faults but they are forgivable, given that we were under “iPod control” of the last years.
This is all I can think of. I hope this helps.
[UPDATE 4]
The vote is actually 4. 5 / 5, but since Amazon does not allow localities, I put 4 stars.
[Disclaimer] I work for Microsoft. I think I was objective in this review – you can draw your own conclusions. [/ Disclaimer] I do not work in the division that makes the Zune, so I have no inside information. />
Start with my tastes and dislikes of the Zune 80:
THE GOOD * Beautiful, bright, large glass ( not plastic) screen. Size (3. 2 “) is much better for viewing videos and photos.
* Size and weight (lighter than the iPod Classic).
* Capacity (80 GB).
* Built-in Wi-Fi and related wireless synchronization.
* ZunePad.
* IU (both device and PC software).
* FM radio.
* Possibility to rent the music (which lets you listen to songs in full before deciding to buy or not).
* Build quality.
* Average customizable.
NEUTRAL * Wi-Fi sharing – if there are enough Zuners around, this is not very useful.
* Simpler song rating scale of 5 points in a point-2 (like / dislike) scale.
ADB * None of the work as Zunes mass storage devices (portable hard drives) – all other players in the market has this capability, then why not the Zune?
* Automatic playlists are no more.
Now, for a more detailed discussion of some functions …
SYNC-ING: USB or wireless?
< br /> is the point: Over-The-Air (OTA aka wireless), synchronization will be slower than the USB sync, but cheaper. Therefore, the use USB sync for mass transfer (eg when you synchronize your Zune 80 for the first time), and sync OTA small, additional transfers (eg, updated every night). To understand the usefulness of wireless synchronization, consider this configuration: Keep the Dock connected to your Zune Your Home Theater (HT) receptor on display then when you turn your Zune into the dock, the player is sufficiently charged, the music is synchronized and you can listen to your Zune music in the configuration of the HT, I think the wireless sync function is very useful and finally the lady is beginning to realize the potential of Wi-Fi card (as much as possible).
MUSIC: Rent or buy?
Both. Hire music enables me to test an unlimited number of songs for an unlimited number of times. For the purchase of books allows me to not worry about maintaining a subscription – I know that my favorite songs will always be with me. Rental for both “in” or “music” hop – Usually this type of music is overrated and quickly becomes boring. The subscription model allows me to fill my Zune with the latest music for (say) a party, to keep my options open for the acquisition of some songs permanently. Zune Marketplace supports models.
ZUNEPAD ZunePad is a great combination of D-pad (directional pad-) and a trackpad. It took me all of 30 seconds to get used to. Scrolling through long lists of songs is quick and fun -). you slide up, down, left or right to navigate the Zune. A film speed of your thumb will send a long list of songs to scroll in any direction, and a button on ZunePad stops scrolling (the book will be a period of natural rest too). All the action is very intuitive and works as expected – For example, the list scroll speed is proportional to the speed of the slide up or down.
< , br /> COMPARISON
; It ’s inevitable to compare each new entrant to the digital audio player (DAP) / Personal Music Player (PMP) / MP3 corresponding market for the iPod – the Zune 80 natural competitor is the iPod Classic 80 GB. To compare the Zune 80 to another device in the iPod family is like comparing bananas and oranges
.< br />
As the Zune 80 is better:
* bigger, better screen (size screen when watching video /> essential) * Wi
* FM radio with RDB display (saving about $ 50 vs. iPod Classic)
* * The sound quality
The interface is much more visually pleasing to both the computer and périphériqueAccès subscription * />
* Zune Marketplace has a well developed social aspect (not a great attraction for me personally, but others will like you more).
* ZunePad. ZunePad on thumb proposals are easier wheel on your iPod (or says my right thumb, still recovering from a serious disease, but unrelated injury).
As the iPod Classic is better: < ; BR /> * ability to mass storage device (aka Portable Hard Drive)
* iTunes Store has the largest collection of music, videos and even
* Cover Flow (as Visually gorgeous, CoverFlow is not very useful for people like me who have mostly individual songs, not albums).
; proposed improvements
1. Turn on mass storage device / capability (aka portable hard drive function).
2. Use Wi-Fi to allow direct download / purchase / lease songs from / to the device (I hope this is already in progress).
3. Bring playlists automatically.
4. Allowing users to select rating scale of 2 points or 5 points.
add more in the review that continue to use the device …
There is no such thing as a perfect digital music player – all have flaws. What is written, I’m pleasantly surprised by the Zune 80 GB hard drive MP3 players I have owned since 2003 when I bought my first. I was recently with the iPod 5G 60 GB and should be replaced if I start looking for new players. After much research I bought the Zune, but does not open immediately. I waited a few days. It was a mistake. For some days I just use the Zune free. I read some comments that the software is terrible. Initially I agreed, but after training, I realized that I reacted quickly. Sometimes it’s a great challenge to ‘unlearn’ software product. This was my chance. Now, I like its simplicity. Recommend improvements for the property, but is very good in general. The player is pretty good. The sound of music for me is better than my iPod. I made a direct comparison listening to the songs exactly the same thing with the helmet on each device, so I called my conclusion. I read a study that reported the most problems with synchronization, etc.. I’ve tried none of these problems. No Doubling of songs. I do not see running back through the list of everything, but not all Resync. For me, you should check the index listing the Zune software to index file on your Zune find differences of what to sync or ignore. Here’s my list of pros and cons for the Zune 80.
Advantages: best music
* sounds (even without equalizer – Go Figure)
* choice to use the click method and / or touch. If you’re not a big fan of the iPod click wheel, you can appreciate the Zune. I like this change. The touch screen is more natural. To scroll up, move your fingers on the touchpad. To scroll down, running his fingers down. Or simply click on the up / down / left / right pad to navigate. Again, it is very natural to use.
* Very easy on the eyes. It ’s a pleasure to see. Easy to read.
* easy to use navigation. Again, forget the other players is the biggest obstacle, but it’s worth knowing the device. When you do, you love this unit. Screen display
* Bigger.
* Radio – with RDB. This is very beautiful.
* Support Podcasts. I joined the video game review X-Play podcasts without any problems.
* Nicer headphones included. They are equipped with headphones that have inserts to help find a better fit.
* The add-in library guide is very easy to use. I do not have the iPod mainly because I was not a big fan of the wheel.
* feel important. Operates as a quality effort was put into it.
Disadvantages:
* Battery life. Not long enough for me.
* Some improvements in the software design of the Zune device and Zune software on your computer. I could list a number of improvements, but I will not. They are more tweaks that I think the development team could easily add. My field is software so I can see things from a different angle.
General: Highly recommended. I am happy not to buy another iPod. I am excited about music again thanks to this player. I look forward to buying CDs and DRM-free music. And remember, there is no such thing as a perfect digital music player. Keep an open mind when browsing for players. There are many good choices out there, not one. Oh, and please not the music. Pay for this if you like the artist can focus their creative talents to make the music even more. (No – I do not work in the music business in any way. I just want to at least support the artists who make music, I want to hear.)
. Amazon. com/review/R357K8TL4R8Q4V This video is a basic overview of the Zune. You can see how it works, and some outstanding features. At the end there are pictures of the Zune software and Zune Marketplace. By Marina
This is not quite as fancy as the iPod Touch, but has a much better price. For the same price as the iPod Classic 80 GB is the clear winner. />
The Zune has a screen that size-wise between the iPod Classic and Touch. Best of all, is a scratch-resistant glass screen better. The video and pictures are superb. />
I thought the iPod has a nice touch interface with the rim. Well, the Zune has struggled with squircle “which is a block of four lanes with a brush touch pad. It works better than you can imagine. When you scroll through long lists, the brush is slightly up or down and squircle ‘ list scrolls at a speed proportional to the speed with which they scrape the floor. scrolling slows down after a few seconds, as the wheels kind of fruit in a slot. It ’s a cool effect hard to describe. Again, get your hands on one Zune and control. You’ll love it. />
The sound quality is excellent. headsets I’ve had many phone and listen to your iPod. The Zune comes with high quality gems sound amazing, very better than the iPod buds. I am a musician and what my friends call a music snob. So, people assume that great sound.
many have complained about the software. has a few quirks, but it is actually very functional and easy to use. I’m sure Microsoft will continue to refine and better. You can also discover hidden features you use most. The Screen Saver, which is not easy to find, is super cool and a strong visual impact. You ‘ve never seen the album artwork displayed as well.
And best of all, we have thousands of high quality mp3 on my Zune (320kbps ) and still a lot of space. Not a single song from Apple’s proprietary DRM or terrible. I can upload and download my songs anytime, anywhere, with anyone. It ’s like he should be.
With my Zune, I bought the AV connection kit and overpriced cars. even if it costs too much, are essential add-ons. in fact, should come with the Zune. But this thing all the greed gets in the way of business priorities! However, the kit allows me to listen to my Zune anywhere. It is almost everything I do. I can now listen to my huge CD collection all the time. I put my Zune on how shuffle and the opportunity to hear the songs in my collection that I /> heard in years. I finally have my money on all the CDs that I bought and listened once or twice.
My Zune has been tested. I listened all day for weeks without a break, and never had a single incident. It worked perfectly and made me a happy music lover. “br />
The price of the iPod Touch is too much to spend on a damn mp3 player with only 8 or 16 GB, too. And the classic is not limited to “touch” the Zune. If you lick your lips in contact with your friend or iPhone, the Zune will not turn on, but if you have been given the Nano or Classic (or any other mp3 player), the Zune will impress you mightily. I ” ve never been a leader and Microsoft have always been fond of Apple, but I think the Zune is really the best mp3 player. />
I found my friends to both of them were released immediately and bought one. This says a word more than anything I could say (or write)! How cool is that.
